Signal Timing Manual - Free!!!

FHWA (Federal Highway Administration) has responded to poor signal timing in the U.S. by putting together a comprehensive Signal Timing Manual.  This is the most thorough document I have seen on traffic signal timing.  It covers every aspect of traffic signals - policy/funding, signal design, timing plan design, implementation, and maintenance.  The hardest part is getting the funding to cut the technicians and engineers loose.

Thanks for the blog. I would like to add a comment about the square traffic signal displays. I noted rectangular signal displays that would change color and provide worded messages and symbols in an article I wrote titled "The Dreamer's Guide to the Next Generation of Traffic Signal Systems" that was published in the July-August 2007 IMSA Journal. You may want to look at that article for additional ideas on alternative signal display designs.
